First, WELCOME to Choose Your Why 2023! My name is Bre Johnson. I’m very excited to be back coaching in this wonderful community program that has helped so many over the years. This is my 10th year coaching/participating in Choose your Y. I first started as a member needing to drop some baby weight after having two kids in two years. I was new to the area and didn’t know many people. The Y and this program quickly became family and home for me. It became about so much more than dropping the baby weight and more about the relationships developed, better eating habits and thriving from being pushed by those around me. I quickly found myself coaching a team the following year and have done so ever since (minus the one year that I had twins ) When I coach this program I fully participate alongside every member. If we’re asking you to eat a certain way or workout a certain way then I feel we should lead by example.
As a coach in the program my goal is to provide each participant with nutritional guidance and workouts that work for them. Everyone is different, so we need to find the best fit for each individual and focus on getting results. I am also a firm believer in making these lifestyle changes and not short-term habits. I want everyone to walk away and be able to sustain their weight loss and continue to find results after completion of this program. We want to set you up for success now and in the future.
I grew up in the fitness business. My parents owned a chain of 7 women’s only fitness centers in the Toledo area where I worked in every department. I found my passion on the fitness side of things and never looked back. When we moved to Battle Creek, I started as an instructor at the Y and quickly found myself as the Wellness Director. I’ve been working in the Wellness Department since 2015.
I hold certifications in AFAA Group Fitness, Jillian Michael’s Body Shred, G.E.A.R. Indoor Cycling, Coach By Color Indoor Cycling, CrossFit Level 1, Cap & Impact Coaching Certifications. Previously I held my AFAA Personal Training Certification. Currently I am a member of MIVCA, AVCA & MHSCA Coaching Associations.
Personal Note – I’ve been married to my wonderful husband Mike for 14 years. We have 7 very active children, Brynn 12, Nico 11, Karma 9, Brevin 8, Mical 8, Ricky 6 & Kole 5. Our kids participate in gymnastics, basketball, football, soccer, wrestling, swim and volleyball. Mike and I met at Wayne State University where he played football and I played volleyball. I still thoroughly enjoy being active in as many different sports as possible. I play a lot of volleyball but also enjoy wake surfing,
skiing and pretty much any other sporting activity. I coach high school volleyball at Marshall High School. I love teaching the game. I run volleyball camps and clinics for kids starting at the age of 3 and up in Marshall and around the state.
